What is RoadViewer?
RoadViewer provides browser access to millions of global kilometres of iRAP accredited 3D mobile LiDAR and 360 degree imagery for viewing and analysis by users. The three main initial products focus on road assets, safety attributes and bridge clearance.
Road Death Statistics
Road deaths globally kill approximately 1.35 million people and injure another 50 million per year at a cost of approximately US2.4 trillion or 1.6% of global GDP. This is double the US1.2 trillion spent per year globally on road infrastructure. Road deaths are the highest killer globally of 5 to 29 year olds, our next generation. Fifty per cent (50%) of deaths are vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists with 90% of deaths occurring in low to middle income countries. The UN has a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to halve road deaths and injuries by 2030 and have endorsed the International Roads Assessment Programme (iRAP) Star Ratings of Roads (1-star to 5-star) as the global standard for roads' safety performance. iRAP estimates that approximately 15 million km of roads need to be assessed regularly to track progress toward that goal.As well as improving road safety, Roadviewer addresses sectors such as bridge surveys.
What solutions does RoadViewer offer?
Traditional methods of assessing and surveying roads involve stages of tedious manual data collection and analysis which is slow and inaccurate. Frequently, data has to be captured multiple times to answer slightly different questions. Organisations need to rely on expensive data specialists simply to view 3D data and perform basic measurements. This all adds up to be an expensive a slow burden on the decision-making process. When analysing bridge clearances, surveyors will often need to stop traffic to conduct their surveys, which is costly, time-consuming, and potentially dangerous. Our technology uses existing sources of mobile LiDAR and 360-degree imagery such as those captured globally by navigation mapping companies such as TomTom to help achieve the UN’s goals more quickly, cheaply, and accurately than anyone else. RoadViewer provides a simple, yet powerful way for users to view and analyse road data online without resorting to manual data collection or outsourced specialists.
